The PFB LITE peak spike suppressor uses carefully selected TVS diodes to absorb dangerous voltage peaks and protect the connected components. Peak spike suppressors are designed for use with electrolytic capacitors, allowing the capacitor to be mounted directly on it. It prevents the voltage from rising beyond a certain level by absorbing and dissipating the energy of the voltage spike. For electric drive systems that utilize brushless motors and lithium polymer batteries, very high voltage and current peaks can occur. The most widely recognized method to mitigate their impact on other connected loads is to use capacitors. This method effectively suppresses all voltage fluctuations by charging when the voltage rises and discharging when the voltage drops. However, in some cases, voltage spikes occur too rapidly for capacitors to handle. These spikes, which last nanoseconds to microseconds, can easily reach twice or three times the normal battery voltage. While most consumers can tolerate these voltage peaks, even if they exceed the maximum rated voltage, excessive or prolonged voltage peaks can damage and cause failure in the voltage regulator, capacitor, and FET. The spike suppressor absorbs these voltage peaks, preventing them from reaching harmful levels.
