About this item

Circuitron 800-5550 GD-1 Gate Driver Circuit

The GD-1 Gate Driver circuit, when used with a CIRCUITRON TORTOISE™ train detection circuitry such as their DT-1, DT-2 or DT-3, an alternating flasher circuit such as their FL-2 and a bell ringing circuits such as their BR-1 & BR-3 will provide all the control electronics for a gate protected grade crossing.

The GD-1 can drive one or two TORTOISE™ machines. With the addition of Circuitron's 8100 Remote Signal Activator, the TORTOISE™ will be able to control crossing gates in any scale that use a vertical control wire through the layout base. The GD-1 is designed to be powered by 8-20 volts DC. The speed of the TORTOISE™ is adjustable and can be set to lower the gates at the proper (desired) speed. In addition, an adjustable Gate Delay trimmer (0—6 seconds) allows an initial time delay before the gates start to move. The Bell and Flasher outputs will be ON during this delay. The input control terminal needs less than 1 ma for actuation, thus requiring a negligible drive current from the controlling circuit. Inputs to the GD-1 must be a ground signal.

There are both Flasher and Bell outputs which provide a grounded output to control external devices. The Flasher output has an adjustable Hold control which can be used to hold the flasher circuitry on while the gate rises so that they shut off together. Both the Flasher and Bell outputs can control up to 250 ma. The GD-1 Gate Driver Circuit is constructed on a 2” x 3” circuit board.
